It was perfect soccer weather and an even better day for a win as the Hauppauge United girls soccer team battled it out against their rivals, the Sachem Slammers. In a game marked by intensity, teamwork, and grit, Hauppauge United came out on top with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
From the first whistle, Hauppauge United set the tone, coming out strong and aggressive. The offensive unit—Alexa Perlstadt, Emma Pinelli, Tenley Jensen, Kensie Buscher, Aleyna Horasanli, Emersyn Drake, and Edith Arevalo-Flores—worked in perfect sync, moving the ball with smart, strategic passing. Their connection up top kept the Sachem defense on their heels throughout the game.
Midfielder Emma Pinelli stood out with her fearless play, charging through the opposition with slick footwork and firing off several solid shots on goal. Her energy was matched by defender Ashley Leinz, whose long and accurate throw-ins proved to be a serious weapon for United. One of those throw-ins landed perfectly at the feet of Horasanli, who trapped the ball and laid it off to Jensen. Jensen's fancy foot work set her up in a perfect spot —sending the ball straight into the back of the net and putting Hauppauge United on the scoreboard.
Defensively, Daniella Pinzon was a standout performer, delivering tough, composed play and several clutch clearances. Kaitlyn Asseng brought her usual hustle, using her speed and skill to transition the ball up the field and set up numerous plays for the offense. Kensie Buscher contributed with solid passing and relentless pressure, while Edith Arevalo-Flores displayed grit by winning tackles and maintaining possession.
As the clock ticked down in a tense second half, Kika McDermott came up huge, winning a critical tackle and surging forward with the ball. Her powerful shot was deflected, but Alexa Perlstadt was perfectly positioned for the rebound, slotting home what would become the game-winning goal.
In net, team captain Riley Franco was nothing short of stellar. She made save after save, leading her defense with sharp communication and fearless play. Her leadership and composure helped anchor the back line during some of the game’s most intense moments.
With a final score of 2-1, Hauppauge United celebrated a well-earned win that showcased not only their talent but also their unity and determination. It was a memorable match and a thrilling victory—one the team will carry with pride into their next challenge.
